The Create Foundation

After reading my article in The Sunday Telegraph. The Create Foundation approached & offered me to be their new Ambassador. I was extremely honored to be asked and without hesitation accepted. Being a ward of state, my siblings and I always had great help by amazing charities just like The Create Foundation. Create mainly focus on young people who have just left care and are on their own, they help support and train them to be ready for the world. When I left foster care at the age of 16, I was guided by another charity similar to this called Alive. We have a lot in the works right now. At the moment I will be supplying two recipe’s a month for their publication and hosting cooking workshops. The CREATE Foundation, formerly the Australian Association of Young People in Care (AAYPIC), and its networks in each state and territory of Australia, was established in 1993 to provide a consumer voice to the care system. During this time CREATE has effectively provided this voice and initiated major reform in the care of children and young people. Most importantly, the direct participation and input by children and young people has provided governments and agencies with new solutions to address widespread and systemic problems in the care system of Australia.

Create runs programs and services to:
• Connect children and young people to each other
• Empowers and resources children and young people in care to make decisions and create opportunities in their own lives, and
• Change the care system from the inside out through the participation of children and young people themselves.
All programs developed and delivered by CREATE involve the participation of young people in concept, design, monitoring and evaluation.

The aim of this project was to provide children and young people in care with the
opportunity to participate in the Office for Children’s review of Leaving Care supports and services that are currently being offered and what is needed.

Children and young people were consulted on the following:
• What support needs are required for children and young people leaving care
or transitioning into independent living.
• What support needs are required for children and young people leaving care
in relation to specialist services
• What support is needed for young people once they have left care
• When should young people begin the transition into independent living
• What the role of a care team is and who is part it
• Children and young people’s decision making processes current and in thefuture

Every month I supply recipes for their Create publication to help kids learn about healthy cooking and lifestyle.
